Hawk climbs down the treehouse ladder to talk to the boys. The Overlord is the wizard who killed Hawk's father. Page boys play music—a guitar and a flute while another serves. Cardinal wants Dove and his soldiers to get any royal guards that escape. The Packrats will trap all in tower with the monster, then set the tower on fire. A masked guard finds Peter, whom he's known to drink the wine, being a drunkard, stuck to the wall in green slime goo. Greylone comes upon the Overlord who is more slimy than ever. He tells Ichi to protect him and the Overlord says, "Yes, Ichi, protect me." Overlord wraps his arm around Ichi and takes him, telling Greylone he is him as a youth and stopped using that name centuries ago. Overlord tells Greylone that his bout with insanity won't last long. He always bounces back. The hood boy crawls up steps as other hood boys come running. A tentacled creature with big yellow eyes and a mouth of fangs comes sliming up the steps. It has a mask boy in its tentacle wrap. Two frilly necked page boys hear screams and go to awaken the Queen. The Queen is up and aware, "We're doomed." A hood Cardinal boy reports to Dove. They will take the masked royal guards of the Queen's whom they have caught to the Cardinal's dungeons. Jay reports to Hawk who feels they are too late. Jay wears a brown hood. He and Dao watched the fire starters. Archers shoot and hit Jay in the back and the two arrows go out his front, one out his upper chest, near his heart and the other out his left rib. Bran and Turo fire back and hit one archer in gray hood and tights in the chest and the other in the lower belly. The archer doubles over. The Sergeant and his men run away. Dao leans over and finds Jay is dead. He tells Hawk. Queen Tiang screams as her tower top booms away into fire. Hawk says, "They won." Cardinal hugs two page boys, "I won!" Overlord hugs Ichi, "I won!" Purebreeze won't let them give up. They are inside the city walls already. Falcon and Purebreeze will go after the Cardinal, try to settle up with Dove and the Shades on the way. Bran will lead the others to Overlord. They will meet in the Throne Room. Hawk says, "One way or another, it will be over, then."
