Elflord: Return of the King #4 Night Wynd, 1993, b&w.
1 Elflord: Return of the King #4 cover Hawk's gang pull on ropes to block the pass (ropes they had, I guess). The rock troll tries to get in. NOTE: This looks like a cop out from the last cliffhanger. Falcon yells at the cowardly boys to pull. It causes a fall of rocks. Bran yells to Dao, Kim, and Turo to run. Hawk wants something to fight and it will slice its guts out. Giant ant men come and grab some elves. Hawk tells the others not to stand there but to fight. Cloudshadow, watching with Ravenclaw tells him that Hawk fights valiantly. He tells her to toy with them all she wants and then to destroy them. She agrees and then takes him off to Greenhaven. Windy, the page boy who cries because he thought he was the Cardinal's favorite, and Jethel are in the packrat tunnels. They see elves, a castle page and another Cardinal acolyte in some sort of dripping slime. One blond one says, he is happy here and tells them he will come soon and make them whole. The boys are drinking the slime. The curly black haired page boy with Windy and Jethel runs out even though Windy and Jethel try to warn him not to. In Windblade's tower, the Cardinal finds Leaf who really needs the magic. He will deliver Leaf from this and he will teach him the real magic. He hugs Leaf who wants Windblade. Windy and Jethel find a pit full of slime and naked and half naked boys stuck in the walls, dropped to the floor, some fully covered in the liquid on the floor. A giant slug creature presiding over the place. Cardinal and Shade Master must have been dropping elves down here for years. Above, the Cardinal has Leaf and his page boy (a new one?) with Shade Master. They have the kingdom divided up. A Shade is with them also. Shade Master senses a powerful presence: Ravenclaw who wants his prize. Ravenclaw doesn't sense Windblade in the city.
Backup story: "The Hawkling" part 1.
Backup story first page THE HAWKLING: a monk with three acolytes returns to the Crescent Moon temple after visiting the Great Spirit Archives. They have the sacred scroll of Tamir Moonstar. An old elf makes Hawk, a little boy elf in short underwear–like covering come out with what looks like a homemade gun. He wants the Scroll. They laugh at him but he shoots a small rock at one who falls with his eyes open. The carrier boy says, "Oh shit." The other one runs but the dart hits him in the right butt cheek and he falls. The other, the carrier, Spudling, is hit in between the legs by accident. The fat monk falls and seems to die, telling the acolyte to protect the scroll. The older elfman–a Fagin type––tells Hawk to kill the acolyte boy. Afraid, the boy nervously says he will just be moseying along. Hawk takes out a short sword and won't kill the boy for the scroll. Hawkcuts the man–elf, who calls him a little shit. The man–elf makes two other boys, one with small pig tails on the top of his head and another eager to kill inside. He yells, "Go! Get him! Take him down! Hamstring him! Just bring him back to ME...ALIVE!" One comes at Hawk with his sword, "I'm gonna enjoy this, Erickson. I've always hated you!" Hawk punches that one in the underarm, "I wasn't that fond of you, either." The pig tailed one comes up behind him with a sword. The boy with the scroll (Spudling) hits the pig tail boy in the head with the scroll. The boy leads Hawk out to the temple. The boys recover but a rock hits the elf man in the head as he yells at Hawk and his new little friend. The elfman slaps around the two boys that failed. The pig tailed one cries tears. He tells the other boys to load the other two prissy bitches onto the cart, they will bring a good price at the slaver's market. He will sell the two acolytes and the two who failed. Both boys cry loads of tears. Then the elf man will visit the temple. At the Temple of the Crescent Moon, a monk greets the boy and Hawk, wondering what the filthy packrat Hawk is doing with him. He wonders if they should throw him in the dungeon. The fat monk is alive and returns, telling them he saved the scroll. The first monk greets the fat one, Yee Hung Lo.
