BLOOD'S END part two: Suntop is alone in the hot and humid air of the once forevergreen.
Suntop feels the very land pulling at his feet as it rains. He wonders if it wants
them as dead as they made it. He knows the boys must be alive and he will find them.
He is on the last rock in the muck and can't go any further, "The Sky! It's...it's
crying! I...I'm all...alone." He cries and sits down, putting his arms around
his knees and his head between, "I wish I were back in the Sun Village...with
Savah..home." Few realized that safety lay below rather than above...they huddled
together in the dark while a million times a million forest dwellers writhed in agony
amid the flames outside. Then, they too were consumed. Willowsnap comes out of the
cave, taking the bowl off himself. Kimo, Shenshen, and Yun huddle together, seeing
the mud in the rain. Kimo tells Shenshen (while Yun cuddles on is arm and shoulder)
that even the sky does not want to hold the mud. Dodia tells Door his follows quake
in fear in the dark streets below. The egg is made of stone. Dodia thinks Door should
talk to his followers. A slave boy listens, holding a torch, fear in his face. A
slave boy with long straight hair takes off Door's pointed helmet. Another one, bald,
takes off his shoulder armor. The bald one has a navel ring. Door's long hair falls
down his shoulders. If the humans turn on each other...he will rule the survivors.
Things turn out that way, very ordered. It is like a great plan. Dart comes in with
Chot, "There is no order in letting the five fingers riot in this prison you
have created." Chot reminds him of Door's powers. "Yes, Dart, heed your
Go Back pet. You do not want to anger me." Door hears all, even Dart's small
whimpers, the human whining. Door's intentions were once that he was to create Blue
Mountain with Dart and the elves as his allies, but..."I may have changed my
mind. I don't know." He tells his little wolf chief, he will be the first to
know when his decisions are made. Far away, north of the great city, Ahn Lai stands
in the water over Jethel. He has a pointed stick like a sword. He has a tether which
leads to Jethel's hands tied behind his back. Ahn Lai tells him that his people worshipped
Jethel's kind...so blind, so willing. Ahn Lai tells him that he is no longer mad
about what Jethel said...he forgot about all that long ago. Ahn Lai tells him they
are going to a village over the hills. Aramak used to trade with this village near
the shore of the big water. He is going to give them a sky spirit to keep. Shenshen
says she doesn't feel anything any more except, "...the loss of my sister's
chi...son. Suntop...poor Suntop!" She sends and Suntop hears her and calls to
her. She cries, "I'm here, child!" He starts out toward her. Through therain,
they reunite. She hugs him, "Oh kitling! I have missed you so!" Suntop
hugs her, "I..I needed to find you, Shenshen. You're the last link..."
As they hug and he cries, he points out that the rain has stopped. The storm is over.
Ahn Lai won't let Jethel eat and tells him he is supposed to be better than him...Jethel
cannot walk on anymore. "Well, I, Ahn Lai, am still standing! I win!" Four
men, one with long hair, one youngish with big ears, one with black hair, and one
semi bald, see them. The semi bald one says, "Just as the vision told. A wild
boy form the forest will bring a spirit from the fire!" Door flies out a hole
in the top of the egg, declaring time for renewal. A hand forms on top of the egg
with four fingers in a fist. Door says, "Winnowill, may she rot wherever she
stands or lies, was in one way right with her teachingsññto truly gain control, one
must first destroy," and he goes on, also saying, "It will be a beautiful
world for my son." "Door!" Dart climbs out, "I knew the world
was still here!"
Door turns to him, looking a bit sad and maybe a bit curious or frightened. Chot
follows Dart, "Lying, fish poking, rock loving...!" Dart gets mad when
Door tries to spout more twisted thinking. Door had hoped Dart would be above the
dim witted ways of his friends, "You can't see the wood for the treesññeven
after the trees have been removed hehheh..." Chot tells him to talk straight,
calling him an arrogant sack of stink wind. Door flies, "Oh, that did hurt..."
Dart asks, "How long do you think we will let you play with us, Door?"
Door is amazed that they allowed it to go on this long. He thinks even if he killed
them outright now, that would appeal to them more than idling about here as one of
his charges. "You have not impressed me, wolfrider. And you are the best of
what your kind has to offer. By my leave, Dodia will bear my sonññand then I shall
be rid of her. But though it may suit your plan and not mine, I believe the time
has come to rid myself of your nuisance now..." |
