FOREVERGREEN PART 6óDart has his green top wrapped around his bare chest, his legs
bare and is with Yun standing in water trying to find a place to see the shoreline
better. They see steps going up a cliff. The forest is bigger than anything they
ever knew. They feel someone watching them and Dart's feeling of this gives it to
Yun but when Dart nearly skewers someone...they find it is Kimo. Yun sighs. Dart
smeks his head and Kimo says, "Ow!" Dart tells him the others have to be
alive. They find a hut at the top of the steps with markings that seem familiar.
Yun hates small dark closed in places. Dart goes in ahead, down steps. Kimo follows
and calls for himóóthe place is bigger going down than it looked. They find a dead
human in a green glowing tomb. Dart thinks he knows this human...he drew the symbols.
He brought his people together with the elves. He died when the Hoan G'tay Sho crossed
the water long ago. Kimo calls Dart to come back to him. Dart tells Kimo the memories
of their long lives just go away. Yun calls them out, she's spotted the others on
the beach. They cannot be heard when they call down to them. Yun also spots humans
landing in rowboats coming out of the river mouth. Down on the beach, the others
are oblivious. Yun says, "You rotten fish pokers, look up here!!!" Jethel
says, "It's so beautiful here. I hope we find Dart and the others soon."
Dodia tells him they will, to be patient. Kimo keeps commenting on how really, really
high the steps are. Strange white colored albino like humans toss nets on Chot and
the others, calling them spirits. Far, far to the north, on the edge of the burning
waste...Bailon returns from the fire sand to the Old One, all humans. They did not
find a way through the Spike Mountains that block their trade with the coast but
did see a four armed demon. The troll Thuggop bahs this and blames the little boy
Yahan for missing it with his arrow. Bailon vows to find a way through the Spike
Mountains over the bodies of the demons who dwell there, if need be. Troll mutters
and grumbles. Windkin asks Door if he is listening. A chain to his ankle still keeps
him from flying off. Aramek taunts Windkin, who hates him. A human woman slave tells
Aramek who threatens to hit Windkin, that his chosen mate wants him. She tells Windkin
she and the other humans hate Aramek as well. Door lives in a world of his own creation,
far from places they know. He retreats there to escape the horrors that are around
him. Legends say he has always been that way, travelling within. It is a thing a
former master taught him, one called WinóOóWill. Windkin calls Winnowill, the Black
Snake. She tells Windkin the two slave boys are KinóChi (dark brown eyes and a determined
look) and Quaila (lite brown eyes and more of a worried look). They belong to a group
that opposes Aramak (yes, different spelling). She tells Windkin any other spirits
found outside the city walls will probably be killed by her people. Aramek flies
to the top of thetower, planning. He figures the sky spirit is too strong in his
will. Even drugged, he will not cooperate, not speak his words. He must keep the
people's belief in him so they will not side with the rebels. Then he will lose everything.
"Well, little Sky Spirit, that will not happenóóeven if I have to gut you and
stuff your carcass with grass, you willl perform for me!" Chot is in one rowboat,
tied with his hands behind his back, asking for something to eat, "At least
give us something to eat!" In another boat are Suntop, Jethel, and Shenshen,
a female albino at the front, facing out, standing. She tells Shenshen they understand
the language of the Spirits and believe the Spirits have come for evil plans. Suntop
tells her they have never heard of her Foundhome. She grabs his face and tells him
to be quiet or their tongues will be cut out. She tells them they know all about
the other Sky Spirit and his filthy alliance with the Attained Father. With Kimo
and Yun on one wolf, Dart on another, the three find the group on the river. Dart
tells the other two, "Those are our friends and folk down there, all we are,
all we have. I didn't lead us here to watch any of us die! Let's ride! I don't care
how many humans there areóóI'll fight them all if I must! We'll all be free...or
we'll all be dead in the trying!" |
