Koni fills Jethel and Chot in on what Ahnessah wants, which puzzles Jethel. How does she expect he can do that? Chot says, "Doesn't matter worth a handful of yellow snow, Jethel. Whether she wants to suck out your brains or just keep you on a rope, she's trouble. Oughtta just be killed..." Arro is on a tree branch eating a banana with Sylvie next to him, an arm around him protectively. Chot tells them, when they defend Pei Lar, that he has seen her pull the arms off little whelps like them, n' then cook em up. Koni thinks, "Well, Bren seems to like her and he's still got both arms!" Kibo puts a hand on his chest, "Will she pull Cap'n Cam's arms out? Sniff." Jethel thinks of bringing Pei Lar to their forest. Chot thinks to pull her arms out. Pei Lar plots to have Ahnessah and Fire Eye kill each other but Cam protests. Bren suggests they sneak into Ahnessah's big house and the kids finish the plot, "And kill her in the night, yaaaaaayyy!!!" Ahnessah's soldiers climb down into Pei Lar's hideout. Gillie and Bren see them. Pei Lar has an escape plan. When the soldiers take out knives, Cam tells Pei Lar to follow her children. He kicks a stick supporting the roof which buries the soldiers. He moves fast, grabbing Pei Lar's hand. She pulls him up and tells Cam that the last time she saw anyone move like that...Ahnessah tells Jooka that she is not mad. It was he who told her about Pei Lar's hiding place...and now they can be followed to Fire Eye, her real quarry. Cam follows Pei Lar out of the watery tunnels, "Hrmp. I believe I now have all too intimate an idea of how food feels..." Pei Lar says, "Hush, there are children about!" Cam leads the group toward the elves, the gang watching for anyone following them. Bren asks, "Are we there yet? I gottaññ." Pei Lar tells him to hush, "What did I tell you about that?" Jethel pops out, making Cam eeep. Kids have been riding on Cam's shoulders. Kibo runs and hugs Cam forcefully, knocking a kid off his shoulders by accident and making him ooofff. PeiñLar tells Jethel the world is telling her that she needs to talk to him. He agrees and they talk. Pei Lar asks if his little birds have sung into Jethel's ears about the Ahnessah creature. He sighs and tells her they have a common problem. Blaming them for setting the forest on fieññwhen she herself caused it but doesn't think she did, Pei Lar wants them to team up but then tells Jethel she wants him gone from the forest too. He agrees if they survive. They start planning.
