Jethel plays the flute as Chot sleeps snerting and mrffing. In his dream, Chot is in a snowy landscape, freezing even though he has on a wool jacket. "What in the name of TwoóSpear's shaft isóó" a giant polar bear thing comes at him, calling him little meat. Jethel tells him the way his hind legs were flailing, he looked as if he was having a dream. Jethel is glad he is awake. He wants to talk to him about Dodia, Door, and their child. Something is not right. Chot tells him to forget her, the jungle's gotten into her skull. Jethel says, "Chot, you're being cold..." Chot says, "If only you knew..." Jethel tells him death is not the same for Dodia as it is for GoóBacks. Chot says it doesn't matter, "I don't like it hereóódon't want to be here. Not if her Rock Headed Mate Door is skulking around..." Jethel says, "I don't think he is...it's a sense I have...." Jethel tells him they can go but he wants to say his goodbyes. Chot calls him a fool and himself a worse fool. Human villagers who call themselves the True People are some distance away. A muscular barechested advisor talks to the fat chief. The chief is called by his wife to take along their buck toothed son. The boy has a crisscross straps over both shoulders, a bare stomach, and a tight thong like affair over his crotch. She tells him he has not fully healed yet. "It was demons who killed your chief father...and half our people with him. We are too fewóówhat will we do if they come again?" The advisor puts a hand on the young chief's shoulder, the boy holding a spear, "Are you learning from this young chief?" The woman does not expect to see either mate or son again. The advisor asks the boy if he can tell him who is right and who is wrong. The advisor says, "Let all know to be vigilant, but not afraid." The chief hrumphs, "Do you always talk like that?" The woman is standing under the fallen giant statue hand of the one Door had put upóóthe hand is now open but not quite fallen totally to the ground, but on an extreme slant. Jethel says, "Whoa!!" Chot asks, "Now what? I said I'd go with you on this much brained missionóóI never said I'd put up with whooping and yipping out of nowhere..." Jethel feels another sending...not Dodia but strong. It was a feeling of hunger. Chot says, "Well, that's the first sensible thing anyone's said all day! Me tooóólet's go, maybe we'll find something to eat!" They find a cave and go to it. The advisor picks up a trail...he is named Balam and has the sharpest eyes of the humans here. The father tells the boy, "Don't want to get your eyes sucked out, do you boy? Heh Heh...." The boy says, "Faaaatherr...." Chot and Jethel send to each other as they enter the cave. Chot tells him "for all we know it could be Door..." They open the curtains and yell Waaagghhhh!! Amazed (Chot saying, "Boil me in bear fat..." they see a grrrróing boy in long thongóóan elf child. Jethel decides to use feelings firstóófriend, not hurt, hungry. The boy gets it. Chot is mad, "What kind of dung digger would chain a cub like this?" Dodia comes in, "I did it." She did it to keep him away from his father. She said the child was where his father could not touch him, nor will he ever. Dodia tells them if Door had any inkling at all that his son were alive, he'd stop at nothing to mold the child to his own diseased ways." Later, with the boy off the chain and touching his own mouth Chot urges Jethel to come on, "I don't have time for this..." Dodia hugs Jethel, "I never meantóó." Jethel shuts his eyes, "Shhh shh. Are you sure you won't come with us?" She has to "stay here, where he is, to keep him away." Dodia hugs her cubling, telling him to go with them, they will protect him. Dodia puts a hand on Jethel's shoulder, "Care for him well, FireóEyeóóI'll clear your way." Jethel says, "Wait!" The boy reaches out, "Mama?" Chot says, "Oh hairballs..." The boy has two chains around his neck with small stones on them or designs, almost knee high boots, wrist wraps, and jewel like straps holding cup like objects on either his belt or leg (looks like the left one). Dodia jumps out of the cave luring the humans to chase her. The boy human says, "Yeow! A spirit!!" The fat man says, "That's the one that speared me! Get her! No spirit demon puts holes in me and lives to laugh about it!" Chot says, "Well, what do you know...that was a move worthy of Kahvi herself!" Jethel hopes she will be all right. Chot tells him they shouldn't spit at her effort of giving them the way, calling her a crazy fox. The cub says, "Mama...?" Jethel says, "You'll see her again, cub...I promise..."
