Koni wonders what council is when Jethel jumps down and calls it, trying to recall everything he learned from Dart. "So far, we are only four...a single hand of us." A dog licks Slyvie's hand. One dog runs and Arro and Koni chase it. Jethel sighs, "It was a start, I suppose..." The dog chases a batómonkey which is on a tree. High Tower of Ahnn Li: Ahnn tells two messengers to go back with word that the set backs are nothing. He then calls in Cam Triompe, calling him a demon trafficking friend. He has read Cam's journals and knows of his knowledge of the elves, and his ally Ge'oóKa told him about Cam's time with Jethel, Dart, Yun, and Suntop as they ate and spent good times. Kibo overhears Ahnn's threat to harm Kibo if Cam doesn't tell all his knows about the elves. Ahnessah comes to Cam. As Kibo listens near the door, outside in the hall, or street, Ahnessah tells Cam she fears for the forest and even for FireóEye, all have a right to life, she also tells Cam she loves Ahnn Li. Cam has to think on all this after Ahnn's outburst at him. He puts his arm around Kibo who puts his arm around him and the two have to return to their quarters. Ahnessah thinks if Cam won't help her, she will find one who will. When Koni finds all his dogs but Boots, he whistles but Jethel jumps down on him, telling him to be quiet. Boots returns and Koni runs to him, "There you are, you big ol' goof! Come here!" Boots, a female, is foaming at the mouth. Someone sends to Jethel to take the children into the tree and keep them there. Jethel looks up, "Wha...?! That'sóóChot?!?" Jethel sends the kids into the tree. Before he can be chief now, music lures Boots away. She seems calm and goes to the player...Chot who plays a wooden flute. Gentle, Chot tells the dog that she doesn't know what happened and the dog closes her eyes. Chot says, "That's all right...you keep your little master's face before you..." Chot rubs her neck but then has to snap it. His closed eyes run with tears. Jethel wonders what to tell Koni about his dog...the cub is heartbroken. He also wonders about Chot...he thought no one would ever see him again. A piece of wood falls into his lap with a wolf designed into itóólike the Send Pictures Dart and the others shared (in NEW BLOOD). Chot sends and tells the sapling to learn the lesson. Jethel cannot scent Chot but Chot wants it that way for now. Chot tells him if he wants to be chief he has to think into the future and sometimes he has to think about now, being a wolf. He has to learn how to do both. Boy helpers of Ahnessah call Kibo to her. She touches his shoulder, his hair, and head as she tells him she can help him keep Cam safe from Ahnn Li but she wants him to find FireóEye for her
